How much does architectural cladding cost?

The cost of wall cladding will vary based on the materials used, the complexity of the project and the scale of the installation. At Advanced Metal Cladding we’ve priced hundreds of residential projects across Victoria, and this guide draws directly from that real-world experience to give you a practical starting point.

What Affects Architectural Cladding Cost?

Before looking at numbers, the main variables that drive price are: the material you choose, the installation system, the total area, accessibility and site conditions, and the complexity of detailing — corners, window reveals, and custom flashings all add time and cost.

Colorbond and Zincalume — Entry-Level Architectural Cladding

Colorbond is the most cost-effective architectural cladding material we install. Nailstrip and Snaplock systems in Colorbond Standard or Matt typically range from $250 to $330 per m² supply and install. Standing Seam in Colorbond sits higher at $230 to $470 per m² depending on profile width and project complexity. Klip-Lok roofing in Zincalume typically runs $600 to $620 per m².

These materials suit contemporary residential builds where clean lines and low maintenance are the priority. Colorbond Matt in Monument, Basalt, and Surfmist are among our most frequently specified finishes.

Aluminium Cladding — Mid-Range Precision

Vestis Aluminium systems in Interlocking, Nailstrip, and Flatlock configurations typically range from $355 to $706 per m² installed. Standing Seam in Vestis sits in the mid-range of this band and offers excellent durability with a wide finish range including powder-coated and anodised-effect options.

Zinc Cladding — Premium Residential

EL Zinc and VM Zinc are consistently specified on high-end architectural residential projects. Zinc develops a natural patina over time and is favoured by architects for its texture and longevity. Flatlock and Standing Seam systems in VM Zinc or EL Zinc typically range from $570 to $750 per m² depending on panel size, orientation, and finish. Specialty finishes such as VM Zinc Pigmento command a premium over standard Quartz or Anthra.

Copper Cladding — Top of the Market

Copper is AMC’s most labour-intensive and material-intensive product, specified for landmark residential projects where longevity and visual impact are paramount. Copper Standing Seam and Flatlock wall cladding typically ranges from $690 to $1,150 per m² installed. Batten Seam copper roofing on complex residential projects reaches the upper end of this range. Custom finishes such as Aurubis Nordic Brass sit above standard mill finish natural pricing.

Why Per-M² Rates Are Only a Starting Point

The figures above reflect supply and installation from AMC as a specialist subcontractor to residential builders and architects. They assume battening and substrate preparation are by others, which is standard for most residential projects. A 50 sqm zinc flatlock feature wall will cost proportionally more per m² than a 200 sqm run of the same system due to mobilisation, set-up, and detailing costs.

Total project costs for architectural metal cladding on Melbourne residential homes typically range from $15,000 for a small Colorbond feature element through to $400,000+ for a full copper or zinc envelope on a prestige residence.
